Clean Tourism

Clean Tourism Programme, operated by the Polish Environmental Partnership Foundation, is directed to tourism sector companies such as: hotels, pensions, holiday houses and restaurants. The Programme draws on expertise and networks of the Clean Business and Greenways Programmes.

The goal is to improve competitiveness of tourism sector companies by helping them improve their environmental performance and engage in community action.

The programme was developed as a response to the growing need of tourism companies to comply with and adapt to European and world-wide trends and standards in the tourism industry. The ideas of sustainable tourism are closely linked to concepts of sustainable development. Numerous international declarations, conventions and programs related to tourism, emphasize the importance of linking economic, environmental and social issues. With European Union expansion now a reality, Clean Tourism gives companies the opportunity and the means to improve their environmental performance and so raise the quality of services offered, improve their competitiveness and stand out in the highly competitive tourism industry.

Companies which succeed in improving their environmental performance are eligible for a Clean Tourism Certificate to be awarded by the Polish Environmental Partnership Foundation. The Certificate recognizes environmental achievement and a commitment to continuous improvement. A certificate is valid for two years.
