Polish candidates for the EBAE 2009/2010

Polish candidates for the EBAE 2009/2010
Polish candidates for the European Business Awards for the Environment were announced in the Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan on 1st of February, 2010. Among the winners of the National Contest are the creator of rotating anti-flood sandbag filler, manufacturer of ecological street lamps and authors of “green” industrial cleaning technology ECO-CIP.

Polish companies should be proud of themselves - says Rafał Serafin, director of the Polish Environmental Partnership Foundation, which is the coordinator of the National Contest. It is estimated that in 2020 the market of eco-innovative technologies will be worth more than 2 billion euros. We hope that through the European Awards it will be easier for Polish companies to compete for these funds and foreign customers.

The Polish candidate for the EBAE in the "Process" category is Mexeo together with OSM Głubczyce, who implemented an innovative Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) technology to wash commercial plants in the food processing industry, specifically dairy factories. Tarnow Water Company Ltd. is another company awarded in this category. Tarnow Water Company developed technology of profound nitrogen and phosphorus reduction in wastewater treatment plants.

Thanks to the contest, Lediko’s Intelligent LED Street Lamp CLEVEO is likely to succeed on the European market. The reason is simple - the use of LED street lighting is not only a question of ecology, but also gives the benefits of lower bills, higher prestige, better functionality and the ability to adjust lighting parameters to the actual needs - says Adam Wilanowski, co-owner of Lediko - the company awarded in the “Product” category.

Apart from Lediko, the prize in the "Product" category was also won by the inventor of the rotating anti-flood sandbag filler, a simple device for quick and efficient filling bags with sand at a flood scene as well as Eko-Pil, founder of ecological industrial tunnel parts washer PMPSCH 500T.

In the category "Management" Aqua SA, water supply and sewage company won. An example of a completed social investment is the reconstruction of an old water pumping station in an indoor swimming pool.

European Business Awards for the Environment are preceded by national competitions organised by member and candidate countries. In Poland, the role of the national competition coordinator is performed by the Polish Environmental Partnership Foundation which is assisted in the task by the Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan.

The national preliminaries of the European Business Awards for the Environment are only open to the winners of the two most recent editions of the Polish Clean Business Awards and the Leader of Polish Ecology competition organised by Poland’s Ministry of Environment.

The selection of the Polish candidates for the EBAE was made by an awards committee, which included, among others: Henryka Bochniarz - President of the Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan, Adam Zdziebło – Wiceminister of Regional Development and Bogusław Sonik – Member of the European Parliament.
